What is Facebook?

Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with other Facebook registered users.  To receive notifications from the National Baptist Convention Facebook page, your must first have a Facebook account.  Go to Facebook ( and follow the steps provided to create a profile (your Facebook page) if you don’t already have one.  Then, visit our page and click “Like.”  You will then be able to  receive notifications from us via email and/or text (use your account settings to set your preferences).  You can also visit this page to see our Facebook timeline in real-time.


What is Instagram?

Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its registered users to share photographs and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.  A distinctive feature is that it confines photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid images.  Users are also able to record and share short videos lasting for up to 15 seconds.

To receive notifications about photographs and video that we upload and to see them on your Instagram page, you’ll need to sign up for an account.  Because this is a mobile platform, you’ll need to sign up using your smartphone, tablet or other connected mobile device.  If you don’t already have the Instagram app installed on your device, visit your app store and download it, then follow the instructions when you open the application. Once you create an account, you’ll also be able to sign in and view your photographs and video on any web-enabled device, but you will only be able to upload images or video from mobile devices on which the Instagram program is installed.


What is Twitter?

Twitter is social networking application that shares brief messages (up to 140 characters), photos and videos up to 30 seconds.  Posts on Twitter are also known as “tweets.” Although Twitter can be used on your desktop, it is primarily a mobile tool for smartphones and tablets.  In order to send/receive tweets, you must first open a Twitter account and identify people, organizations or subjects to follow. If you don’t already have the Twitter app installed on your smartphone or tablet, you can download it free from your app store. Once downloaded, open the app and follow the instructions to set up or log in to your account.  To access Twitter from your desktop, go to

Working with Hashtags #

The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. This makes searching Twitter for topics easier.  The hashtag can be placed anywhere in the message.  As a general rule, you should use no more than two (2) hashtags per message and they should be relevant to the topic of your tweet.
