Ministries National Baptist Laymen's Movement Ministries

Finance and Budget Ministry
The Finance & Budget Ministry is under the leadership of the Vice President At-Large. The Finance Committee and the Treasurer receives, give receipt and accounts for all monies received on behalf of the Movement and deposit such funds in the approved designated bank. The Finance Committee disburses monies under the direction of the President. The Treasurer is responsible for financial books and records and prepares periodic and annual reports as needed.

The Finance Committee is responsible for making verbal appeals and written requests to the membership for funds as directed by the President.

The Budget Committee is responsible for preparing the annual budget of proposed income and expenditures for the National Baptist Laymen’s Movement. The committee reviews the previous year’s budgets, makes recommendations for changes and receives from the President his annual list of ministry recommendations to be funded.

The budget committee receives from each ministry its proposed budget request for the year. The budget is presented to the Executive Committee for review and to the general body for ratification at the Mid-Winter Board Meeting. The budget committee makes recommendations to the President for changes to be made to the budget, during the course of the year. The committee monitors the expenditures of the Laymen’s Movement to ensure that spending is in accord with the budget.

The Chairman of the Discipleship program will receive direction from the Vice President At-Large.

Missions Ministry
The Missions Ministry is under the leadership of the 1st Vice President. The Ministry is comprised of Home and Foreign missions.

The National Laymen’s Home Missions Ministry will be led by a director. Its purpose and goals generally can be summarized by Matthew 25:35, “For I was a hungered and ye gave me meat, I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in. Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.” The Home Missions ministry will carry out this part of Christian work in the United States of America. Jesus will be our example in seeing to and supplying people’s needs, (Clothing, Feeding, Sheltering, Healing, etc.).

Two components of the Home Missions Ministry will be a means to fulfill our purpose, The Labor of Love Ministry and the Bible Ministry. The Labor of Love Ministry will be led by a director, in mobilizing laymen with skills and crafts in carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing and general labor to assist in maintaining, repairing and renovating churches, convention supported schools, mission stations and other facilities. The Bible Ministry will be led by a director to be responsible for distributing bibles at laymen’s sponsored evangelistic efforts and other settings where people have need of the Word of God.

The Foreign Missions Ministry will be led by a director. Its purpose and goals also can be summarized by Matthew 25:35, to be carried out and fulfilled in foreign countries. This committee will also be responsible for coordinating the National Laymen’s Work-Witness and Singing-Witness foreign trips.

The Missions Ministry will cooperate with and assist the convention’s Home and Foreign Mission Departments in their programs and activities.

The Missions Ministry strives to serve as a model for State Conventions, District Associations and local churches.

 

Education Ministry
The National Laymen’s Education Ministry is under the leadership of the 2nd Vice President. The Education Committee is responsible for developing and promoting Christian education and spiritual development through laymen programs and literature at all national laymen sessions, including regional and weekend workshops.

The Education Ministry leadership will coordinate with the National parent body leadership on selecting themes, programs, topics, literature, instructors and schedules.

The Education Ministry is also responsible for the National Junior Laymen Department and its programs.

A Superintendent is responsible for coordinating classes in the Allen Jordan Seminar, Annual Session Classes and Regional and Weekend Workshop themes and topics. A Director of Junior Laymen Work coordinates the activities of the Junior Laymen Department.

The Education Ministry is also responsible for John L. Webb Award and the National Laymen Scholarship program.

The Education Ministry strives to serve as a model for State Conventions, District Associations and local churches.

 

Worship Ministry
The Worship Ministry is under the leadership of the 3rd Vice President. The Worship Ministry Committee is responsible for creating an atmosphere of Praise and Worship for all laymen sessions. They are responsible for selecting persons, groups, music and musicians for devotions, praise & worship periods and other periods of music during laymen programs.

The Worship Ministry will coordinate with facilities management where the laymen are convening on room setups, equipment rental, acoustical requirements, and audio, visual and sound hookups.

The Worship Ministry will work with the Education Ministry in coordinating classes, seminars and workshops on praise and worship.

The Worship Ministry is responsible for coordinating the annual Male Chorus Sing-Off.

The Audio/Visual/Sound Department will receive direction from the Worship Ministry Leadership in recording all laymen programs and activities.

The Worship Ministry strives to serve as a model for State Conventions, District Associations and local churches.

 

Social Ministry
The Social Ministry is under the leadership of the 4th Vice President. The Social Ministry is responsible for coordinating the programming of the laymen’s social and fellowship activities that includes the John L. Webb Banquet, Evening With The Royal Court, Missions In Education and Evangelism Luncheon, Special Projects Breakfast and Baptism & Communion Service.

The committees of the various social and fellowship events where fundraising is associated, is to promote and encourage laymen to participate and support these efforts. The contributions raised from these efforts are to support the laymen programs, activities, ministries and operations.

The Social Ministry strives to be a model for State Conventions, District Associations and local churches.

 

Evangelism Ministry
The Evangelism Ministry is under the leadership of the 5th Vice President. The purpose of this ministry is to coordinate evangelistic and outreach activities that include street, prison, jailhouse, hospital, follow up and other.

The Evangelism Ministry will work with the Education ministry in coordinating classes, seminars and workshops on evangelism and outreach literature, methods, strategies, techniques and procedures.

The Evangelism Ministry will work with the parent body and its auxiliaries, departments and commissions in coordinating evangelism activities and efforts.

The Evangelism Ministry strives to be a model for State Conventions, District Associations and local churches.

 

Secretary Ministry
The Secretary Ministry is under the leadership of the General Secretary. This ministry is to assist the president and serve as the recording officer for all sessions, meetings and proceedings.

The Secretary Ministry is responsible for coordinating registrations and registration materials and working with the Finance Ministry in regards to the Discipleship program.

The Secretary Ministry shall keep a record of names, addresses and other necessary information on members. The secretaries are responsible for communicating with the members between sessions and notifying the officers and ministry leaders about information and directives from the president.

The Secretary Ministry is responsible for coordinating and preparing programs for the laymen’s annual sessions and making daily and annual reports of the laymen proceedings to the parent body.

The Promotional Materials Department will receive direction from the General Secretary. The materials include the design, development and distribution of laymen literature.

The General Secretary will promote and schedule laymen’s Weekend Workshop program.

The Director of the Historical Commission will receive direction from the General Secretary.
