2014 Election Results:

September 5, 2014 — On Thursday, September 4, 2014, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., under the leadership of Dr. Julius R. Scruggs, elected Dr. Jerry Young as its next President. Dr. Young is the current Vice President-At-Large and Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. The voting results were (by percentage of total votes):

Young – 49%
Kimber – 22%
Jones – 14%
Holmes – 11%
Vaughn – 4%

Board of Directors Meeting of the NBC, USA, Inc.
September 1, 2014

Reverend Tellis Chapman (MI) motioned & seconded by Reverend Guy Campbell (NJ) to re-affirm the voting procedures passed and adopted by the Board of Directors in the June 18, 2014 meeting Board of Directors Meeting in Dallas, Texas, when it was motioned by the Reverend C. L. Bachus (KS) and seconded by the Reverend W. M. Jackson (IL) that the report given by the Reverend Calvin Butts, III (NY), chair of the Election Supervisory Commission (ESC), be accepted and the motion carried. The attachment of the report on Voter Eligibility, numbered 1 through 5 read as follows:

Voting Eligibility

  1. By June 30, 2014 the ESC will send a letter to NBC, USA, Inc. Churches, Constituent Entities that specifies the number of votes they are eligible to cast in the NBC, USA, Inc. Presidential Election (taking place in New Orleans, LA, on Thursday, September 4, 2014).
  2. The ESC will develop the 2014 Official Vote Credential. The face of the 2014 Vote Credential will bear the number (#) of votes that a Church, Constituent Entity is eligible to cast.
  3. Each Church, Constituent Entity, will receive an additional Vote Credential (representing an additional vote) upon registering and paying appropriate registration fees to NBC, USA, Inc. in September 2014. After registering, and receiving the official registration receipt, the Church, Constituent Entity will proceed to the ESC Office in the Morial Convention Center, to pick up their Official Vote Credentials(s). The ESC will distribute Vote Credentials on Monday, September 1 to Wednesday, September 3, 2014.
  4. No Voting Credentials will be distributed on the day of Vote, Thursday, September 4, 2014.
  5. The motion passed overwhelmingly. This vote negates the new information that was posted on the website regarding voting procedures as well as disseminated into the public domain by mailings. Pastors and/or designees of voting Constituent Entities upon registering can proceed to the ESC and pick up their voting credentials for voting delegates upon identifying them on the ESC form.

All Churches, Constituent Entities that are currently registered, and in good financial standing with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., will receive a Letter of Eligibility to Vote in the NBC, USA, Inc. September 2014 Presidential Election. The letter will indicate the number of votes accorded each Church, Constituent Entity to cast in the Presidential Election on Thursday, September 4, 2014.

Statement on Number of Votes

Each Church, District Association or State Convention (Entity) may be eligible to cast up to five (5) votes for the election for President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.  The election will be held during the 134th Annual Session in New Orleans, LA, September 1-5, 2014.  Each entity is granted one vote for each year it has registered with the Parent Body of the Convention with at least the minimum registration fee for a Church, District Association or State Convention in each of the following years:  2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.   The Entity must have accumulated a minimum of two (2) votes to participate in the election.  Specifically, this means that the Entity must have registered, at minimum, in 2014 and at least one other year between 2010 and 2013.  The Entity MUST be registered for the 2014 Annual Session with at least the minimum registration to cast their vote(s) in the election.

Birmingham, AL ­–January 20, 2014
The Nominating and Credentials Commission of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., under the guidance and appointment of Dr. Julius R. Scruggs, Convention President, recently released the report listing the official candidates for the September election of the next National President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

The Commission performed its duties consistent with Article IX, Paragraph 9.1 of the Constitution revised on September 5, 2011 in Orlando, Florida. In compliance with that language, six (6) persons submitted their constituent member petitions to the Convention headquarters by the January 1, 2014 deadline. Packets were submitted by: Dr. R.B. Holmes (FL); Dr. Clifford Jones (NC); Dr. Boise Kimber (CT); Dr. Alvin Love (IL); Dr. Randy Vaughn (TX); and Dr. Jerry Young (MS).

On January 8-10, 2014, the Commission met at the National Baptist World Center in Nashville, TN. Each packet was thoroughly and exhaustively examined to identify and record the number of constituents’ entities (an entry must have registered in at least one year since the last election) in good standing with the Constitution’s registration requirement. The review consisted of numerous checks and double-checks to verify correctness.
Based on the review, the following nominees are certified as having satisfied the “100 Petition Requirement.” In alphabetical order the certified nominees for President are:

  • Dr. R.B. Holmes
  • Dr. Clifford Jones
  • Dr. Boise Kimber
  • Dr. Randy Vaughn
  • Dr. Jerry Young

The Nominating and Credentials Commission members are Rev. Jimmie Banks, Chairperson; Ms. Jeannette Tatman; Dr. Cedric Perkins; and Rev. Melvin Owens. The election will occur during the 134th Annual Session, September 1-5, 2014 in New Orleans, LA.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION – SEPTEMBER 4, 2014

By now, all Churches, Constituent Entities that are registered, and in financial standing with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., have received a Letter of Eligibility to Vote in the September 2014 Presidential Election. The Eligibility Letter indicates the number of votes accorded each Church, Constituent Entity to cast in the NBC, USA, Inc. Presidential Election on Thursday, September 4, 2014.

UPDATE

If a Church, Constituent Entity has not received an Eligibility Letter, or finds a discrepancy with information in a received letter, said Church, Constituent Entity may present its issue/discrepancy findings, along with accepted forms of documentation to:
