NBC - American Red Cross National Orientation and Equipping Conference
Disaster Relief
Oct 20, 2009

National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and American Red Cross National Orientation and Equipping Conference

November 12 & 13, 2009

State Plaza Hotel

2117 E Street NW

Washington, DC 20037

This past two weeks have shown that the timing of our Disaster management ministry could not be better as we witnessed a number of devastating events nationally and internationally.  The floods of Georgia and West Virginia, the tsunami in the American Samoas, earthquakes in Indonesia - all demonstrate the suddenness of catastrophe.  Preparedness should never be taken for granted.

The MOU partnership agreement signed during the Convention session in Memphis has opened the door for the first National Conference with the American Red Cross (ARC).  This disaster orientation and equipping conference is designed for regional and state disaster coordinators. It is very important that regional and state coordinators become better prepared to minister in their respective state or region.  On November 12 & 13, 2009, we will be hosted by the American National Red Cross in Washington, DC for this orientation and equipping exercises.  The Department of Homeland Security/FEMA and NVOAD also will make a presentation to us so that you will be able to better organize the work of disaster relief in your state with FEMA and other organizations active in response to disaster. This is a most important workshop/training.  Your presence will not only enhance your leadership but will also say to government and the ARC that the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. is concerned about helping underserved, disaster-stricken communities around the nation.  Our number in attendance is very important.

The American Red Cross has made arrangements with the State Plaza Hotel, 2117 E Street NW, Washington, DC 20037 at a rate of $179.00 per night to accommodate our group.  This is a great rate for downtown DC. We encourage you to work with your state convention and/or church to underwrite the cost for your attendance at this training.  Please call to reserve your room as soon as possible.  Again, the dates for our training are November 12-13, 2009.
