2012 Scholarship Guidelines

2012 Scholarship Application Package - FINAL

  1. Applications for the 2012 Scholarship will be available at the 2011 National Baptist Congress of Christian Education in Indianapolis, Indiana
  2. The criteria are provided in the National Baptist Scholarship Application Packet
  3. The Scholarship Committee will evaluate each State applicant based on the criteria outlined in this application packet.  E.valuation points will be assigned as follows: application (5) academic GPA (10) academic curriculum (10) church participation (15) community participation (5) content of recommendations (5), essay (50).
  4. Each State Congress may submit one applicant to the National Scholarship Commission.
  5. All applications must be typed and submitted in the original format. (emailed or faxed copies will not be accepted)
  6. The award will consist of a five thousand dollar ($5,000) scholarship; one for each applicant from each of the five regions of the National Baptist Convention as submitted. If there is no applicant from one of the regions, the funds will be divided in a prorated manner.
  7. A scholarship will be awarded to a student in the name of the National Baptist Convention President, Dr. Julius R. Scruggs and an additional one in the name of the Congress President Dr. George W. Waddles; all others will be awarded in the name of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.

Guidelines for Completing Scholarship Applications

The scholarship applicant must:
  1. Be a member in good standing of a church that is currently registered with the Convention and the Congress of Christian Education
  2. Currently be enrolled in high school with satisfactory progression toward graduation in the year the application is awarded or already matriculating in college.
  3. Possess a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of not less than 2.5 (un-weighted) on a 4.0 scale.)
  4. Provide an official transcript or an original copy of the most recent report card
  5. Have been in attendance at the National Congress of Christian Education and participated in the Youth Division activities the year prior to submitting an application and provide a copy of the certificate received.
  6. Have been involved in a community activity and provide written evidence of participation.
  7. Submit the application packet to their local district association president/ moderator on or before the prescribed deadlines set by the National Baptist Scholarship Committee
  8. Write a 400 to 600 word essay. The essay is to include your a. life experiences b. future goals, how and why those goals were chosen c. your plan to achieve those goals and the timeline related to the accomplishment of those goals. (Essay must be typed, double spaced, using a 12 font and Times New Roman font.
  9. Submit three (3) letters of recommendations, on original letter head, to include the following persons:  a) Pastor;  b) Youth Director, Sunday School Superintendent, or person within the church leadership; and c) Teacher, guidance counselor, principal, etc.
  10. Submit typed application only.
  11. Be submitted to the National Baptist Scholarship Committee and postmarked no later than midnight December 15, 2011.
