Criminal Justice Commission Schedule for Congress - Volunteers Needed for Ministry to Correctional Facility

By Harold Simmons |  May 27, 2016

The National Baptist Convention Criminal Justice Commission in collaboration with the National Baptist Laymen, releases it schedule for the 111th Congress of Christian Education in Tampa, FL, June 20th through 24th, 2016.

More than 50 volunteers are being screened for the possibility of conducting ministry in the St. Petersburg Community Release Center in St. Petersburg, FL. Major J. Smith has been kind enough to open his facility to our ministry team and we thank God for his provision of the opportunity.

St. Petersburg Community Release Center is located at 4237 8th Ave. South, in St. Petersburg, Fl. and houses some 150 inmates. It will be our pleasure to minister to the least of these, my Father’s children.

As a minimum security facility, FL DOC - St. Petersburg Community Release Center has dormitory housing. The prisoners are classed as low level risk, and FL DOC - St. Petersburg Community Release Center has no perimeter fencing and a low staff-to inmate ratio. To assist inmates in their rehabilitation, FL DOC - St. Petersburg Community Release Center has many work programs
which enable inmates to work in local institutions.

Our preliminary goal is to enter into a dialogue with the inmates concerning reasonable service, based on the Romans 12:1, 2 text. We hope to help them understand the “Plea” for reasonable service, the “Present” of reasonable service, the “Picture” of reasonable service and finally the “Practice” of reasonable service.

Services will be schedule Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. As is our practice, we will depart each day from the Prison Ministry classroom unless otherwise instructed.
There is still plenty of good room. If you are interested, please call or text 602-809-8702 with driver’s license number, social security number and date of birth. We will also need to submit a government furnished picture ID and be subjected to a background check.

All information must be submitted by June 10th.
