Convention to help build 1,000 homes in Haiti

September 27, 2010

President Julius R. Scruggs reported during the 130th Annual Session that the Convention has received approximately $1.1 MM in donations for the Haiti Relief effort to date.  The Convention has entered into an association with the African American Baptist Missionary Collaboration to build approximately 1.000 family permanent shelters in the Cabaret region of Haiti.  The AABMC donated a check for $500,000 to Habitat for Humanity in June 2010.  Habitat will use the funds donated to build the housing structures.  The AABMC will continue to work together for a period of one year and will re-evaluate their progress at that time.  A life-size sample of the family shelters was on display in the exhibit hall during the Annual Session in Kansas City, MO in September.
