Bethany Chapel celebrates 149 years and a new church edifice

Bethany Chapel invites all to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of her New Church Edifice and 149-Year Anniversary Ceremony

The Bethany Chapel Baptist Church is pleased to announce and invite all to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of her rebuilt church and the celebration of her 149-Year Anniversary, which would be taking place on Saturday, August 27, 2016 and Sunday, August 28, 2016 respectively at the church premises.
It has been just over two years since the Bethany Chapel Baptist Church; a historic landmark that had stood for nearly 150 years was destroyed by fire. That fateful day, August 4, 2014 will remain in the hearts of the entire Ottawa community as a tragic one; the day the oldest and only African American church in the Franklin County area came tumbling down.
The last few years have been a trying period for the Bethany Chapel Baptist Church and the entire Ottawa Community, but God saw us through it all. We are happy this day has finally come and it is with great joy that we are inviting all to join us in celebrating the goodness of God in this church. The details of the programs are as follows:

  • Church Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Among those honored will be:
Dr. Kenneth J. Frank of Frank Eye Center, Ottawa Kansas; and Deborah Barker, Executive Director, Franklin County Historical Society

ANNIVERSARY THEME: “Strengthening Our Grip through Remembering, Refocusing, Renewing, Reconnecting, Rebuilding, and Rejoicing”, Isaiah 58:6-12.

Special guest: Sardis First Baptist Church, Coffeyville, KS. Rev. Dr. Virgil O Horn.
(Pastor. Rev. Horn is a former son in the ministry of Bethany Chapel and was licensed to preach under former Pastor, Rev. Benny Landrum)

Special guest: Strangers Rest M.B. Church, Kansas City, KS. Rev. Jimmie Banks, (Pastor. Rev. Banks is the President of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Kansas of which Bethany Chapel is a member.)
